Product Overview
ABB AO845A is a new generation 16-channel analog output module in the AC 800M distributed control system. While providing high-density 4-20mA output, it natively supports HART digital communication write function. It can directly send set values, range parameters or operation commands to on-site HART execution devices (such as intelligent valve positioners and frequency converters), achieving true "digital + analog" hybrid control.

Intelligent valve control: Send set point and stroke calibration
instructions to HART valve positioners (such as ABB TZIDC)
Remote speed regulation of the frequency converter: The frequency
setting value or start-stop command is written through 4-20mA +
HART
Chemical process optimization: Dynamically adjust the opening
degree of the feed valve of the reaction vessel and remotely modify
the parameters of the positioner
Energy management system: Centrally control the rotational speeds
of multiple cooling tower fans and upload the equipment status
Digital transformation project: On the basis of retaining the
existing 4-20mA circuit, add digital control capabilities
Installation and Usage instructions
Hardware installation
Insert the AO845A into the S800 I/O electronic rack (TB842A
redundant base plate is recommended);
Connect to the CI854A (optical fiber) or CI801 (electrical)
communication module via ModuleBus;
Connect the output terminal to the on-site HART execution device
using shielded twisted-pair cables.
Software configuration
Add the AO845A device in Control Builder M v6.0+;
Configure for each channel:
Output range (4-20 mA / 0-20 mA
Engineering units (%, Hz, °C, etc.)
HART device type and write variables (such as PV Setpoint)
Fail-safe mode (Hold/Reset/Previous value)
Enable Asset Optimizer for device health monitoring.
Debugging and verification
Green LED: The module is operating normally
Red LED flashing: Channel-level fault (such as short circuit or
HART non-response)
The output value can be forced through Control Builder M or the
HART command can be sent for testing.
