    Product Overview

    ABB DO840 is a new generation of 16-channel digital output module in AC 800M distributed control system, featuring NPN transistor leakage (Sinking) output structure and tool-free spring terminal technology. Designed specifically for driving 24 V DC loads (such as solenoid valves, relays, solid-state relays, PLC inputs, etc.).

    As a high-density upgraded version of the DO801/DO810 series, the DO840 significantly enhances wiring efficiency and diagnostic capabilities while maintaining high reliability. It is suitable for scenarios such as automotive manufacturing, packaging machinery, material handling, water treatment, and smart factories where there is a clear demand for rapid deployment and predictive maintenance.

    Maximum load current: 0.5A per channel, total ≤ 4A per module

    Spring terminal tool-free wiring
    Push-in technology, supporting 0.14-2.5mm ² (26-12 AWG) wires
    The wiring speed is increased by 50%, with anti-vibration and anti-loosening properties, making it suitable for mobile devices and harsh environments
    Comprehensive protection and diagnosis
    Each channel is equipped with short-circuit protection, overload detection and open-circuit status monitoring
    Faults are automatically reported to the System 800xA, supporting channel-level LED or software status indication

    High-speed pneumatic control: Driving 24V DC solenoid valves of brands such as Festo and SMC (leakage type connection method)
    Robot workstation: Control fixture release, safety door lock, sensor enable signal
    Packaging and filling line: Start and stop labeling machines, rejection devices, and counting inkjet printers
    Logistics sorting system: Activate the chute electromagnet, block the cylinder, and trigger the code reader
    Test and calibration bench: Simulates PLC input signals or remotely controls test equipment


    Installation and Usage instructions
    Hardware installation
    Insert the DO840 into the S800 I/O electronic rack (TB842A redundant base plate is recommended);
    Connect to the CI854A (optical fiber) or CI801 (electrical) communication module via the ModuleBus cable;
    Provide a 24V DC load power supply externally. The positive terminal is connected to the load, and the other end of the load is connected to the output terminal of DO840. The common terminal (M) of DO840 is grounded.
    Software configuration
    Add the DO840 device in Control Builder M v6.0+;
    Name each channel (such as "Sorter_Valve_3_CMD");
    Configurable fail-safe behavior (such as automatic shutdown in case of short circuit);
    Enable the channel diagnosis function to achieve predictive maintenance;
    Debugging and verification
    The green LED on the front panel indicates that the module is operating normally.
    If a certain channel is short-circuited, the current of that channel will be limited and a fault will be reported (red LED flashing or software alarm).
    Loop testing can be performed by forcing the output through Control Builder M.
