    1.Overview of the EK1501 Beckhoff

    The Beckhoff EK1501 is a high-performance EtherCAT fiber optic coupler for connecting EtherCAT Terminals (ELxxxx) to the 100BASE-FX Ethernet fieldbus. Using single-mode fiber optic cable (9/125 µm), it achieves inter-station distances of up to 20 km and supports up to 65,534 EtherCAT Terminals with up to 4.2 GB of addressable I/O points, making it suitable for large distributed automation systems.

    The EK1501 is equipped with two SC duplex fiber optic interfaces and a three-digit hexadecimal ID DIP switch, enabling flexible configuration of linear, star, or mixed topologies and rapid device group location. The coupler converts upper-layer Ethernet telegrams into E-bus signals with a latency of only approximately 1 µs, ensuring real-time performance. It supports 24 V DC power supply on both the system and field sides, with a built-in 2 A E-bus power supply and a maximum permissible 10 A power contact current, meeting the power supply requirements of a wide range of I/O modules.

    The module features a compact 51 mm × 100 mm × 69 mm housing and can be mounted directly on a 35 mm DIN rail. It has an operating temperature range of –25 to +60°C, an IP20 protection rating, and is certified by CE, UL, ATEX/IECEx, ensuring safe operation in harsh industrial environments and Zone 2 explosion-hazardous areas. With its long-range, high-speed performance, strong isolation, and easy scalability, the EK1501 has become a core node in long-distance EtherCAT networks for power generation, transmission and distribution, rail transit, and large-scale production lines.
